Snow Day

When the media frenzy for yesterday's storm hit, I (any everyone else in a 15 block radius) high tailed it to the grocery store. I find it difficult to hibernate without a chewy, homemade, comfort food. We don't have many snow days in this neck of the woods, so we don't have an established snow day baking tradition. While everyone else in line was stocking up on bread, we bought the ingredients. We used this soft pretzel recipe and topped them with sesame seeds, poppy seeds and minced garlic, or cinnamon sugar (because everything is better with cinnamon sugar). The intermittent outdoor play of a 12 degree day, works perfectly with something that takes two rises, the extra step of shaping the pretzels keeps little hands out of trouble. Mix, play, shape, play, bake, play. We must have liked the pretzels, I forgot to take a picture of the end result. Next time, more winter weather is on its way.
