M, who put the chicken's egg in the robin's nest, wants this photo's caption to read, "Wow, that was one heck of a robin."
We found this nest, precariously perched, on the edge of the top window trim at the little house. The mud holding the nest together was still damp when we took it down (but no eggs). There was even a little sprig of green weed, still growing in the mud. Fascinating how the finest pieces are used for the inside, and the rougher stuff is used for the outside. I can't imagine it would have made it through the first strong gust of wind. I guess, nature is equal parts wisdom and trial and error.
